We're getting calls and emails asking if we are still in business during Coronavirus.  The answer is YES  as we are considered essential workers!  Rest assured, know that not only is Skillville Corp. still open for business, we also take social distancing practices seriously.  Know that we are doing proper clean ups and protecting our workers during this time.  This should give you an ease of mind.

Things To Consider When Remodeling A Kitchen

We have been fortunate with a mild Winter so far.  This gives the rare opportunity to continue to remodel homes.  With so many innovative products hitting the market, there is plenty to choose from for your kitchen remodel.

Some things to consider with a kitchen remodel:
  • Age.  How long has it been since you replaced your kitchen?  Has it been decades?  Has it been 5 years?  If it's not long ago or too long ago, it's already an alarming sign that the kitchen needs to be replaced.  You may not even realize that you have a slow leak!
  • Materials.  Does the kitchen still feel like you're in the 80s or 90s?  If so, you have dated materials that are beginning to chip, crack, peel, fade, or simply break.  Materials are typically built to last up to 30 years so if you haven't even refinished your kitchen, now is a great time to do so.
  • Budget.  Normally, people try to low-ball a kitchen.  If the pandemic taught us anything is that the kitchen is definitely one of the most important places -- even during a pandemic when you're stuck at home with your piles of hoarded non-perishable food and rolls of toilet paper and paper towels!  Think about functionality first, followed by style so that your kitchen is efficient and as ergonomic as possible.

Kitchen Remodeling Trends for 2021

Just going over these 4 key points may make you a little nervous.  That's understandable!  However, know that Skillville Corp. does NOT cut corners with your new roof installation.  Well...maybe if your 2x6 is off by 1/16th of an inch.  (Contractor joke).

  • Marble.  What's making a huge comeback in the kitchens is marble.  The more color or busier the veins run, the better.  It gives off a feel of high end luxury.
  • Wood Grain.  Another comeback is wood grain, particularly light wood stains to the point of it appearing to be barely applied.  This pale oak or pale walnut gives a little bit of warmth but still gives a light feel to the kitchen.
  • Dark Palette.  If the wood grain or marble is too light for you, another trend includes a very dark palette, such as a charcoal gray, dark espresso, walnut, or even a shade of black!  When you pair these darker colors with stained wood, it surprisingly gives a rustic charm.  We just think you miss going to your nearby coffee shop...
  • Bright Color Accents.  What almost goes hand-in-hand with the light color trends is accenting the light palette with bright colors such as tangerine or cobalt blue.  This adds some spice to your kitchen.
  • Double Islands.  This is another unusual trend but a trend nonetheless.  Why have one island when you can fit two?  If you have the space in your kitchen, another island means more counterspace and more room for more stools.
  • Sans Handles.  Another interesting trend is the lack of hardware in your kitchen.  This means flat cabinetry with no handles.  If you think your cabinets will get messy, you probably still want handles.
  • Pantries.  If you made do without a pantry, chances are you really need one now.  Pantries are being built up into walls or in another area within your kitchen.  Adding more cabinetry always adds more value to your kitchen.
  • Appliances in Drawers.  To give the kitchen an even more clean look is to hide your appliances behind your drawers and cabinetry.  This gives a very luxurious look to your kitchen.
  • Gold Accents.  Another interesting and beautiful trend is using gold accents - but not like the brass finishes of the 80s and 90s.  Even kitchen sinks and sink hardware is coming in gold finishes.
