Need to Lower Your Energy Bills?  Here's How.

Hire a General Contractor in Wilmington, MA to Lower the Bills of Your House With Better Insulation!

Insulation is key to keeping your home cool in the horribly hot and humid Summer as well is warm in the dead of the darkest, coldest Winter.  However, insulation is typically the last thing you'll think about when it comes to upgrading your remodeling your home, partly because insulation isn't as "sexy" as replacing windows or vinyl siding.  However, insulating your home is one of the most important things you can do in your house to make your home more livable, with a more constant temperature rather becoming too extreme in any way.  Nowadays, there are much more insulation products than ever before.  Here are some types of insulation to consider.

Blanket: Batt and Rolls Insulation

This is the most commonly used insulation.  Pink Panther by Owens Corning is probably the most famous one.  You should check your R rating on your insulation.  We are typically shocked to still find R-7 or R11 insulation.  The higher the R rating, the better the material insulates your house.  Nowadays in New England, especially in Wilmington, MA it is recommended to have an R rating of R-38, but we often have clients that want a higher R rating, so we can even get it up to R-60 if all types of insulation is used.

Foam Board or Rigid Foam Insulation

Foam Board insulation is literally a foam board.  R-ratings vary from R-5 to even R-11.  If you add form board, you may notice the foam decreasing the amount of draft in your house during the Winter, or that your house is not getting as hot during the Summer.

Spray Foam Insulation

Just like foam board, spray foam insulation is a relatively new product, all things considering.  You might have noticed spray foam in shows like Holmes on Homes or similar.  A big perk about spray foam is that it gets into all the cracks, which dramatically decreases draft within your home.

Loose-Fill and Blown-In Insulation

This is another relatively new form of insulation that can easily get up to an R-rating of R-38, but only if properly installed.  Depending on the type of material, this could also be a more environmentally friendly approach to insulation...some material could be 40-50% recycled glass or sometimes up to 75% post-industrial recycled material.  Sometimes blown-in insulation is actually recycled paper, but treated with a fire retardant...so please, please, please don't just throw in your shredded paper!  That is definitely a fire risk.

To conclude, there are many types of insulation and sometimes your house needs a combination of insulation and other methods of making your home better insulated.  Although it may cost some money to upgrade your home insulation, you have instant savings in energy bills for years to come.  It is common for us to hear from our clients that their energy bill has decreased by 50%!  To find out what insulation solution should be provided to you, please do not hesitate to contact the skilled general contractors of Skillville.  We'll be at your Wilmington, MA house for insulation installation in no time.  And yes, we also serve the surrounding area.
